Planning Your Wedding Music

Wedding Music

Your boyfriend of three years has finally proposed to you. Now you have six short months until the wedding and you have so much to plan. You’ve chosen the dress that you’ll wear, but you still need to figure out your service providers and one of those services is the music that will be played at your reception

The first thing that you should decide is what type of music will be played. There are three different ways people generally have music played at their reception. You can have a DJ come to the reception, a string quartet, or you can have an actual band.  These days there’s always the option of just hooking up your iPod or mp3 player, but this might require you escaping from the dance floor for a little while.

Now you need to choose the songs that will be played at the ceremony and at the reception. If your ceremony is in a church, you may need to speak with the pastor or priest to determine what types of music are acceptable in the church. Your reception music is completely up to you, but keep in mind that you want to choose music that fits your theme. If your reception has a winter wonderland theme, it wouldn’t make much sense to play beach music.

Another good strategy to use is to make a list of all of the things that will happen during the reception and choose songs for each event. For example, you’ll need a song for your first dance as husband and wife. Selecting the music for the first dance is crucial because you’ll both be dancing to it. Additionally, you will need a song for the father-daughter and mother-son dances. Music is essential for the bouquet toss and for the moment you two cut the cake.

If you’re having trouble coming up with songs that you might like played at this event, you can always ask your DJ for some advice and ideas.

Meet with your DJ a few times before the big day and make sure that this person has a clear idea of what type of music you want played. Don’t be afraid to communicate. If your DJ knows exactly what you want, he or she will be better able to make your reception one that you will enjoy.
